Regolith particles on the asteroid Itokawa were recovered by the Hayabusa mission. Their three-dimensional (3D) structure and other properties, revealed by x-ray microtomography, provide information on regolith formation. Modal abundances of minerals, bulk density (3.4 grams per cubic centimeter), and the 3D textures indicate that the particles represent a mixture of equilibrated and less-equilibrated LL chondrite materials. Evidence for melting was not seen on any of the particles. Some particles have rounded edges. Overall, the particles' size and shape are different from those seen in particles from the lunar regolith. These features suggest that meteoroid impacts on the asteroid surface primarily form much of the regolith particle, and that seismic-induced grain motion in the smooth terrain abrades them over time.  相似文献

Human basophilic KU812 cells express the high-affinity IgE receptor Fc epsilon RI, which plays a central role in the IgE-mediated allergic response. The effect of several major tea catechins, (+)-catechin, (-)-epicatechin, (-)-epigallocatechin, (-)-epicatechin gallate, and (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg), on the cell surface expression of Fc epsilon RI in KU812 cells was studied. Flow cytometric analysis showed that only EGCg was able to decrease the cell surface expression of Fc epsilon RI after a 24 h treatment in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, immunoblot analysis revealed that the total cellular expression of the Fc epsilon RI alpha chain decreased upon treatment with EGCg. Fc epsilon RI is a tetrameric structure comprising one alpha chain, one beta chain, and two gamma chains. The level of mRNA production of each subunit in KU812 cells was investigated. KU812 cells treated with EGCg expressed lower levels of Fc epsilon RI alpha and gamma mRNA than nontreated cells. These results suggest that EGCg has an ability to down-regulate Fc epsilon RI expression, and this suppressive effect may be due to the down-regulation of Fc epsilon RI alpha and gamma mRNA levels.  相似文献

The responses of nitrogen (N) uptake by rice (Oryza sativa L.) to low water temperatures at different growth stages were examined during a 3‐year field trial in northern Japan. Cool irrigation water was applied at two to three temperature levels (16–25 °C) for 20–34 days during the vegetative stage and then during reproductive growth. We measured the N uptake rate, N content and canopy radiation interception during both growth stages. Exposure to low water temperature during either the vegetative or the reproductive growth stage slowed N uptake, and the magnitude of the decrease differed between the growth stages; the decrease was greater during vegetative growth than during reproductive growth. Consequently, total N uptake at maturity was most strongly reduced by low water temperature during vegetative growth and was not affected by low water temperature during reproductive growth, even though N distribution to the panicle was greatly reduced. The variations in N uptake during the growing season among growth stages and years were explained better by the amount of canopy radiation capture than by the number of degree‐days based on water temperature. This strong dependency on canopy radiation capture improves our understanding of the factors responsible for variations in N uptake under different levels of water temperature, and this knowledge will provide an opportunity to simplify the modelling of N uptake.  相似文献

Ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis (RISA) has been applied to the microbial community analysis of agronomic products in combination with a simple and rapid DNA extraction method, consisting of a one-step extraction and two-step purification, for a variety of agronomic products. RISA appears to be a useful tool for the study of the community structures of food-associated microbes and their use as a unique fingerprinting signature for each agronomic product. Sequencing analyses of amplicons generated from RISA suggest that this method can detect conventional microbes. In the case of RISA of wasabi paste DNA, the sequences of the amplicons showed high similarity to the plant pathogen Xanthomonas campestris and the soil bacterium Bacillus subtilis, whereas several food-associated bacteria (Lactococcus lactis, Lactococcus raffinolactis, and Lactococcus sakei) were detected using this technique in sausage DNA. Unexpectedly, the sequencing analyses also revealed the presence of several microbes that possessed high similarity to human bacterial pathogens such as Weissella confusa and Yersinia pestis. The results suggest that RISA will be a useful method for routine microbial community analysis in agronomic products.  相似文献

Twenty-seven pruritic dogs were used in this study. When a hypoallergenic diet was fed to these 27 dogs for six weeks, none of the dogs showed improvement of the pruritus. These dogs had a history and clinical signs of atopic dermatitis (AD) as defined by Prelaud's diagnostic criteria. Subsequently, the 27 dogs were isolated for observation for two weeks in the hospital. In the isolation room in the veterinary clinic, cages and tableware were all stainless steel, and carpet was not used. A hypoallergenic diet was continuously fed to the 27 dogs for two weeks, during which time they were kept in the isolation room. PVAS (Pruritus Visual Analog Scale) was performed prior to starting the isolation, at the start of the study and 2 weeks after starting the isolation. In 17 dogs (63%) the pruritus improved in the isolation room. A statistically significant reduction (p < 0.01) of PLS (Pruritus liners score) was recorded 2 weeks after isolation. It was hypothesized that the 17 dogs whose pruritus improved in the isolation room had AD caused by an environmental antigen that was not present in the isolation room. Pruritus of the remaining 10 dogs (37%) did not improve. For 6/10 dogs, the intradermal allergy testing was positive for an environmental antigen. For 4/10 dogs, the intradermal allergy testing was negative for all environmental antigens. Dogs for which sensitivity to an environmental antigen was not identified were thought to have atopic-like dermatitis.  相似文献

Background

The provision of feed is a major cost in beef production. Therefore, the improvement of feed efficiency is warranted. The direct assessment of feed efficiency has limitations and alternatives are needed. Small intestine micro-architecture is associated with function and may be related to feed efficiency. The objective was to verify the potential histomorphological differences in the small intestine of animals with divergent feed efficiency.

Methods

From a population of 45 feedlot steers, 12 were selected with low-RFI (superior feed efficiency) and 12 with high-RFI (inferior feed efficiency) at the end of the finishing period. The animals were processed at 13.79 ± 1.21 months of age. Within 1.5 h of slaughter the gastrointestinal tract was collected and segments from duodenum and ileum were harvested. Tissue fragments were processed, sectioned and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Photomicroscopy images were taken under 1000x magnification. For each animal 100 intestinal crypts were imaged, in a cross section view, from each of the two intestinal segments. Images were analyzed using the software ImageJ®. The measurements taken were: crypt area, crypt perimeter, crypt lumen area, nuclei number and the cell size was indirectly calculated. Data were analyzed using general linear model and correlation procedures of SAS®.

Results

Efficient beef steers (low-RFI) have a greater cellularity (indicated by nuclei number) in the small intestinal crypts, both in duodenum and ileum, than less efficient beef steers (high-RFI) (P < 0.05). The mean values for the nuclei number of the low-RFI and high-RFI groups were 33.16 and 30.30 in the duodenum and 37.21 and 33.65 in the ileum, respectively. The average size of the cells did not differ between feed efficiency groups in both segments (P ≥ 0.10). A trend was observed (P ≤ 0.10) for greater crypt area and crypt perimeter in the ileum for cattle with improved feed efficiency.

Conclusion

Improved feed efficiency is associated with greater cellularity and no differences on average cell size in the crypts of the small intestine in the bovine. These observations are likely to lead to an increase in the energy demand by the small intestine regardless of the more desirable feed efficiency.  相似文献

The radish displays great morphological variation but the genetic factors underlying this variability are mostly unknown. To identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) controlling radish morphological traits, we cultivated 94 F4 and F5 recombinant inbred lines derived from a cross between the rat-tail radish and the Japanese radish cultivar ‘Harufuku’ inbred lines. Eight morphological traits (ovule and seed numbers per silique, plant shape, pubescence and root formation) were measured for investigation. We constructed a map composed of 322 markers with a total length of 673.6 cM. The linkage groups were assigned to the radish chromosomes using disomic rape-radish chromosome-addition lines. On the map, eight and 10 QTLs were identified in 2008 and 2009, respectively. The chromosome-linkage group correspondence, the sequence-specific markers and the QTLs detected here will provide useful information for further genetic studies and for selection during radish breeding programs.  相似文献
